McManus wins it for Brechin

Brechin moved level on points with Albion in the Second Division after Paul McManus' first-half strike sealed a 1-0 victory at Cliftonhill.

The Hedgemen dominated their hosts in the first half, David McManus twice going close with long-range drives on each foot.

But Paul McManus, who had blasted over the crossbar in the 21st minute, put the visitors ahead seven minutes before the break. Craig Molloy stormed down the left wing to pick out McManus, who powered the ball into the back of the net from 12 yards.

Scott Chaplain went close to equalising with 65 minutes played, his ripping volley from distance caught by Craig Nelson.

James Lister then threatened to extend the Brechin's lead with a pinpoint shot from 12 yards but could not outsmart Derek Gaston.

And as full-time approached, Todd Lumsden had an excellent chance to snatch a point but volleyed agonisingly over the crossbar when well-placed to score.
