Charlie King, stabbed in Brechin's second goal.
Brechin closed the gap on Ayr to a point as they defeated their relegation rivals 2-1 at Somerset Park. This is indeed Brechin's first away win in the league this season in their bid for division 1 survival.
It was a quiet first half until Stevie Hampshire was taken down in the box on 25 minutes, Marc Millar smashed in from the spot.
Brechin scored the 2nd eight minutes later when Charlie King stabbed in from an Ally Mitchell cross, there looked no way back for Ayr at this point.
Ayr were back into it 5 minutes later when Graeme Browne netted a suberb curling strike into the bottom corner.
Minutes later Marc Millar was given a straight red for using an elbow.
Brechin survived some 2nd half pressure from Ayr to keep the match at 2-1, but were reduced to nine men minutes from the end when Stevie Hampshire was sent off for a 2nd bookable offence.
Kean, Brown, Hardy and Craig all went close for Ayr near the end.
Brechin are now only a point behind 9th placed Ayr and only 3 points behind 8th placed Raith Rovers, it's getting tight at the bottom!!
