Berwick Rangers 0 Brechin City 2

A very disappointing game between two poor sides was ruined by the controversial refereeing of Crawford Allan. The referee gave City a penalty in the 27th minute when David Murie was adjudged to have fouled Chris Jackson.

It was a soft award but Gary O'Connor pulled off a brilliant save from Paul Ritchie.

With ten minutes left there was more controversy as substitute Chris Templeman won another penalty when he fell as he was running away from the goal.

In the fury which erupted Berwick's David Murie was sent off and although O'Connor made another superb stop from Templeman's spot-kick, the Brechin striker followed up to force the ball home.

Four minutes from time Templeman added a second when he gained possession on the right, ran through a disorganised defence and scored.

Until the second penalty neither side posed a real threat, although Ian Little did hit the bar after a fine solo run.

Rangers were weak in midfield and up front and a vast improvement will be needed if they are to cause Aberdeen any concern in the CIS Cup on Tuesday.

Templeman's goal was the first Brechin have scored this season but until the disputed penalty they had not produced a shot on goal in the second half.
