An early lead for Brechin was not enough to save the division one basement side breaking their duck this season as they were demolished at home by Ross County.

Brechin took the lead on 25 minutes as Gerry Britton latched on to the ball in the box and rounded the keeper.

The experienced hit man then chipped the ball high into the net to give the hosts the lead, but Brechin showed the signs of a side that are winless so far this season and, after a period of sustained pressure, it came as little surprise when Ross County equalised after 36 minutes.

A corner was only half cleared by the home defence, and Jim Lauchlan picked the ball up from the far side of the box and drove a hard shot at goal which was blocked on the line but fell to Martin Canning who finished from close range.

From then on the visitors took the initiative in attack and had their efforts rewarded in the 41st minute as John Rankin charged into the home side box and drilled a shot low and beyond Craig Nelson..

Strugglers Brechin had their misery further compounded in the second half as County added another just three minutes after the restart.

Striker David Winters raced into the box and skipped past the on-rushing keeper before finishing from an angle. Don Cowie the made it 4-1 on 57 minutes as he danced into the Brechin box with a neat one-two with Alex Burke and then blasted the ball beyond the reach of Craig Nelson.
