Brechin and Ross County shared the spoils in a pulsating six-goal thriller at Glebe Park.

City almost grabbed the lead within the first minute when Steven Hampshire played a good pass across the penalty box to Darren Smith, and County keeper Ian McCaldon had to look sharp to keep out the winger's pass.

City were putting County under pressure, and they deservedly took the lead after 15 minutes with a great goal. A David Hannah free-kick was cleared only as far as Scott Walker at the edge of the County penalty box, and he cracked a superb drive into the top corner of the net giving McCaldon no chance.

County tried hard to get on level terms, and Sean Higgins was unlucky to see his overhead shot brilliantly saved by Craig Nelson after 22 minutes, and seconds later the same player was unlucky to see a scorching drive come back off the bar with Nelson beaten.

County went straight into attack after the break, and Don Cowie was unlucky to see a low drive go just past the post after 49 minutes.

However, the visitors drew level a minute later through Lionel Djebi-Zadi. A John Rankin effort ricocheted off Paul Deas into the path of the County full-back at the edge of the box, and he wasted no time in hammering a low drive into the bottom corner of the net.

City, however, stormed back into attack, and regained their lead five minutes later. A Gerry Britton header was handled in the box by County skipper Jim Lauchlan, and Hannah stepped up to give McCaldon no chance from the spot-kick.

City kept up the pressure and they went further ahead with a wonderful goal after 71 minutes. Hampshire passed to Britton in the County box, and he then flicked the ball on to Grant Johnson, who scored with a spectacular overhead drive.

Brechin looked to have sewn up the points, but the drama wasn't over, as County hit back with two goals in a minute to shock their hosts.

Sean Webb reduced the deficit in the 82nd minute when he fired home a Lauchlan cut- back, and the Highlanders drew level in controversial circumstances a minute later. David Winters collected a pass from substitute Craig Gunn and appeared to control the ball with his arm before steering it beyond the reach of Nelson.
