Brechin closed to within a point of league leaders Stranraer with an emphatic 4-1 victory.

It was Stranraer who made the early running and after 14 minutes Craig Nelson blocked from David Graham and a follow-up effort from John Fraser was headed of the line for a corner by David White.

From the corner, taken by Lee Sharp, Murray Henderson headed Stranraer into the lead.

Brechin hit back and in 22 minutes a Chris Templeman drive was saved by the feet of Andrew McCondichie.

Brechin equalised in 28 minutes when Graeme Gibson crossed for Templeman to volley home on the near post.

Two minutes later Craig Winter put Brechin ahead with a drive which took a deflection on its way in.

After 38 minutes a Stephen Swift header forced a great save from Nelson.

Brechin stretched their lead in 48 minutes when a Kevin Byers corner was headed down by David White and Scott Walker headed home.

Stranraer refused to give up and after 64 minutes Allan Jenkins forced another good save from Nelson.

On 81 minutes Gibson missed a sitter when he fired a Byers cross over the bar from six yards.

Brechin wrapped things up six minutes from time when a Steve Hamilton cross was headed home on the back post by Templeman.

Brechin continued to attack and in the closing minutes two efforts from Paul Ritchie and one from Kevin McLeish flew just wide of the target as the home side looked to add to their tally.
