Dick Campbell selected a back four which consisted of Andy Dowie, Scott McCulloch, Jamie Smith and Marc Millar, leaving club captain Paul Deas out of the squad.
Brechin started badly and conceded the first goal after only 7 minutes as Ricky Gilles picked the ball up and squared the ball to Robert Dunn, who had an easy tap in.
It went from bad to worse for City and conceded another goal just 5 minutes later when Marc Millar bizarrely chested past keeper Davie Hay, but the ball appeared to have gone out of play before the goal.
Brechin started to push for a lifeline and found it when Scott McCulloch headed into the net from a Charlie King corner.
Not long before half time, Darryl Duffy poked the ball past the keeper but it hit the post, but sadly twisted his leg and was stretchered off and looks to be out for the rest of the season. He was replaced by Chris Templeman.
Just minutes into the second half, Brechin equalised through Chris Templeman, who rose above McGowne to nod into the net from Scott McCullochs pinpoint cross.
But just 6 minutes later, St Mirren were back in the driving seat when Crilly punished Scott McCullochs mistake, blasting in from the edge of the box.
But Brechin got another deserved equaliser and it was well worth the wait, Charlie Kings corner was headed out and the ball fell to Craig Winter, who volleyed into the top corner from 25 yards out.

BCR's MoM- Apart from his mistake which led to St Mirren's 3rd goal, Scott McCulloch looked solid and never put a foot wrong all game, also popped up with a perfect header to get City right back into the game.
