Brechin 0-0 Partick AET 1-3 Pens

It was once again the battle of the Campbell twins, Ian and Dick, but it was the former who was the happy one this time around. Dick Campbell's side was a lot more experienced and organised than the one that was hammered 4-0 by Brechin in a pre-season friendly several weeks ago.

Partick completely dominated the first half. Creating chance after chance and City had Craig Nelson, Scott Walker and David Craig to thank for the game not being over by the half time whistle. Nelson made a couple of excellent saves to deny Partick captain Marc Smyth as he tipped the skippers shot over the bar before Scott Walker blocked an open goal. Minutes later Shaun Kilgannon looked to have put the visitors in front only for David Craigs goalline clearance to deny him.

Mid-way through the first half there was a wee scuffle when Steven Ferguson slid in hard on Scott McCulloch, who reacted and this was followed by a 10 man brawl and both teams management had to drag players out of it. Both players involved in the initial tackle were booked.

Second half was pretty poor, Brechin were playing slightly better but still couldn't string two passes together without losing possession. Partick were still having chance after chance and in the closing minutes Craig Nelson made an outstanding double save.

Steven Ferguson was given a second yellow in extra time and was given his marching orders, before Thistle finally saw off a poor City in penalties, where Partick keeper Kenny Arthur emerged the hero.

Very poor performance, the only players that deserved pass marks was Craig Nelson (I'd give him 9/10) and Scott Walker (8/10). The rest of the team were nowhere near as good.
