Brechin 1-1 Airdrie

Brechin went into this game knowing 3 points was not well out of reach and it was a good chance to rise up the table away from the opponents, Airdrie.

City started well enough but somehow Airdrie were awarded a penalty kick in the 5th minute. It still remains to be seen what Grant Johnson did as pictures on scotsport show that Johnson was nowhere near McPhee, however, we all know that Colin Hardie is the worst referee in Scotland and is quite frankly a terrible referee. Brian McPhee, who was asjudged to have been fouled took the spot kick, but justice was done as Nelson saved superbly.

Brechin had two great chances to go in front minutes later as two Paul Ritchie headers just went wide of the post, before Airdrie came close to the opener when a shot from outside the box looked to be trickling into the corner but was well saved by Nelson.

City were deservedly ahead after 24 minutes. Slack defending by Airdrie saw Alex Burns steal the ball and make a superb ball through to Grant Johnson who evaded two defenders before flicking the ball into the corner.

Colin Hardie once again showed what a poor referee he is by sounding his whistle every 30 seconds for no real reason at all.

Into the second half Brechin were once again dominant in all areas of the park, and came agonisingly close when Airdrie keeper Lee Hollis fumbled a routine cross which fell to Alex Burns, but his powerful shot was headed off of the line by an Airdrie defender.

But with 10 minutes to go, disaster struck for Brechin as they once again lost a late goal that denied them all three points. The City rearguard poorly defended a throw in but Craig Nelson saved a cross range effort before Stephen McKeown eventually rammed the ball into the net to give the Diamonds an undeserved share of the points.
