Brechin 1 Clyde 1

Clyde came calling to Glebe Park last Saturday in which promised to be an exciting encounter, two sides who like to pass the ball about and don't tend to resort to long ball, however, it wasn't the pleasant match we were hoping for, it was a bad tempered encounter instead. The last time Clyde were at the the Glebe wasnt very long ago, when City beat the Bully Wee 3-2 in the Bell's Cup after extra time, the scorer of the winning goal for City was Stvene Hampshire.

And it was that man again who opened the scoring for City in this encounter after only a few minutes. Debutant Gerry Britton made a fantastic turn and pass for Hampshire who evaded his marker before slamming low into the net to give City an early lead.

City could have gone two ahead just minutes later. A cross from the right from Ally Mitchell was met with a volley from Gerry Britton, but the experienced striker didn't catch the shot properly and the ball ended in the arms of Paul Jarvie. In all fairness Clyde really should have equalised mid-way through the first half, where Alex Williams missed an absolute sitter after an excellent cut back from a Clyde forward, before Paul Deas cleared a Michael McGowan effort off of the line as City continued to soak up everything Clyde could throw at them. City's best chance of the half occurred when Steven Hampshire was put clean through on goal, only to see his powerful volley superbly saved by Paul Jarvie and out for a corner kick.

Into the second half, just a minute after the re-start Clyde got a deserved but fortunate equaliser. A corner kick from the left hand side was headed out of the box by Scott Walker, before Paul McHale slammed a volley through a mass of bodies and through Craig Nelson's legs, who would have seen the effort late.

On the hour mark the game boiled over, Gerry Britton chased a ball played forward and lashed out at a Clyde defender, before Neil McGregor reacted angrily and took Britton by the neck and pushed him to the ground. The referee had no choice but to send both players off. Britton had a good debut before then and a man of his experience really should have known better.
