Brechin 3-2 Clyde

Eventually the season is here! Two months and 24 days is just too long to go without seeing some competitive Scottish football and when it eventually arrived we were treated to a professional performance against fellow 1st division outfit Clyde.

City showed the will to win from the start when Paul Ritchie thumped the ball over the bar after some good link up play down the right hand side.

But sadly, just 3 minutes into the match Brechin found themselves 1-0 down as Alex Williams blasted high into the net to give the Bully Wee the lead.

After 16 minutes Brechin found themselves on level terms. Craig McEwan made an excellent run down the right hand side before supplying a cross for Paul Ritchie, who knocked in at the back post.

And thats the way it stayed until 11 minutes from time, when Brechin scored again. A good move saw Stuart Callaghan cross into the box with his weak foot which was nodded in by substitute Graham Gibson to give City the lead.

But the lead didn't last long, 6 minutes later and only 5 minutes from time Clyde equalised, a Clyde forward headed the ball along the face of goal for McGregor to nod in at the far post to send the game into extra time.

But 13 minutes into extra time, Brechin were back in the lead as Steven Hampshire headed low into the net after a McEwan cross.

I have my confidence now that Brechin can stay up in the 1st division after this performance.
