The draw for the first round of the Bell's Challenge Cup was made half an hour ago. Brechin have been paired with fellow 1st division outfit Clyde at Glebe Park.

Clyde only have a few signed players and they have newly turned part-time so the team won't be as strong as the one we came up against in 2003/04.

The full draw for the 1st round is as follows:

Raith Rovers v Elgin City
Peterhead v Berwick Rangers
Brechin City v Clyde
Morton v Gretna
Ayr United v Stirling Albion
Dundee v East Stirlingshire
Ross County v Montrose
Arbroath v Stranraer
St. Johnstone v Alloa Athletic
East Fife v Stenhousemuir
St. Mirren v Forfar Athletic
Queen’s Park v Hamilton Academical
Partick Thistle v Cowdenbeath
Queen of the South v Albion Rovers

Byes: Dumbarton and Airdrie United.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The 1st, 2nd and 3rd divisions will experience major changes next season as a new play-off scheme has been introduced.

The team which wins the second division title will be automatically promoted to the first division, while the team that finishes bottom of the first division will be automatically relegated to the second division.

However, the teams that finish 2nd and 3rd in the second division will both face each other in a play-off semi final, as will the team who finished 9th in the first division and the team that finishes 4th in the second division.

The two winners from the semi final's will play each other in the play-off final.

This is good news for Brechin City fans, for this season anyway. If we finish 9th in the 1st Division, we would normally be automatically relegated but providing we are the winners in the Play-Offs we will secure our status in Division 1 for another year.
