Tough talking by Chairman

THE CAMPBELL era at Brechin has ended and the focus at Glebe Park turns to tomorrow's visit of promotion-seeking Ross County.

Training this week was combined with some tough talking from club chairman David Birse.

There is still enough of the season left for it to be useful in preparing for the next and the task of rallying the troops has been placed temporarily on the shoulders of club captain Paul Deas and keeper John Hillcoat.

“You can't point the finger of blame for what has happened this season at any individual,” said Deas. “But you can't sack 10 or 11 players.

“We are judged on results and we know that we could and should perhaps have done better.”

The City squad is injury free and everyone is available except for the suspended Gary Bollan and Danny Grainger.

Birse confirmed that interest in the Glebe Park vacancy has already been indicated.

“I have asked them to put in their applications. We have not approached anyone and we have nobody in mind. We will see who comes forward and we have an open mind about whether it is as a manager or player/manager.

“I had a bit of honest talking with the players on Tuesday. They agreed that they had to shoulder a good bit of the responsibility for what has happened. They accepted that if they had played to their true potential the manager might still be here.

“I have warned them that if there is not an improvement between now and the end of the season they will be out on their backsides, contract or no contract.

“It is difficult for Paul and John to be ‘one of the boys' then in charge of selection. I expect everyone to rally round and help them.”
